US Open: Poland’s Świątek through to 2nd round

Poland’s world No. 8 Iga Świątek has eased into the second round of the women’s singles at the US Open tennis tournament in New York, with a straight-sets win over Xiyu Wang of China.

The 25-year-old Pole saw off the 80th-ranked Chinese 6-2, 6-3 in their first-round match at Flushing Meadows.

Up next for the Polish player at the last Grand Slam tournament of the year is Argentina's Nadia Podoroska.

Świątek, a former US Open champion, is playing for her seventh Grand Slam singles title in New York.

The 2026 US Open runs until September 13.
