"Fortunately, the disease is running its course without symptoms for now," Małysz, one of the best ski jumpers in history, wrote on social media.
During his career, Małysz, now 42, won four Olympic medals: three silvers and one bronze. He also notched up four world championship titles.
After hanging up his ski jumping boots he tried his hand at off-road racing. He is one of Poland’s most popular sports personalities.
Since 2016 he has been director of ski jumping for the Polish Ski Association. (PAP)
