The Polish Ski Association (PZN) said in a statement on Thursday that Żyła, who is a ski jumping world champion and one of Poland's hopes for the Beijing Olympics, would miss the weekend's World Cup competitions in Titisee-Neustadt, Germany.

He is expected to return to action at the end of January for the next World Cup stop in Germany's Willingen.

Żyła is another leading Polish ski jumper, after Dawid Kubacki, to have recently tested positive for COVID-19, state news agency PAP reported.

Meanwhile, Poland's most decorated ski jumper Kamil Stoch, a three-time Olympic champion, is nursing an ankle injury ahead of the winter Olympics in China.

The 24th Olympic Winter Games will be held in Beijing from February 4 to 20.
