World Winter Polonia Games under way in Poland's Wisła

During the weeklong event, which opened on Sunday in the Polish mountain resort of Wisła, athletes are competing in several winter sports, including Alpine skiing and snowboarding.

The World Polonia Games are held every two years by members of Polish communities abroad. The first Polonia Games took place in 1934 in Warsaw.

The Games are divided into winter and summer events. They offer opportunities to exchange information and discuss problems faced by Polish communities abroad.

The 15th World Winter Polonia Games are being held under the auspices of Polish President Andrzej Duda.
