The Polish goal machine, who plays for German champions Bayern Munich, has expressed firm support for Ukraine amid the Russian invasion of the country, the Business Insider website reported.

The Pole was wearing an armband in the colours of the Ukrainian flag during a German Bundesliga match between Bayern and Eintracht two days after the outbreak of the war.

He was also one of the key people behind the Poland national football team's decision to refuse to play a World Cup play-off match against Russia scheduled for later this month.

The footballer's decision to terminate his Huawei contract comes after accusations that the Chinese multinational was training Russian IT experts to help stabilise Russia's internet service following a series of disruptions it faced after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, according to Business Insider.

In response to the allegations, Huawei released a statement in which it dismissed reports of its ties to the Kremlin as "fake news."

It added that it was sad to end its cooperation with Lewandowski, but wished him all the best in the future, according to the website.
