Tennis: Poland’s Świątek into Ostrava Open quarterfinals

Poland’s Iga Świątek has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Ostrava Open tennis tournament in the Czech Republic.

The 21-year-old Polish world No. 1 on Wednesday saw off Australian Ajla Tomljanović, who retired in the second set due to a knee injury, trailing 5-7, 2-2 in their second-round match.

Świątek, who is the top seed in the tournament, had a bye in the first round.

Up next for the Polish tennis star in Ostrava is either home favourite Karolina Muchova or American Caty McNally.
