Tennis: Poland’s Świątek reaches Italian Open quarterfinals

Poland’s Iga Świątek has advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's singles at the Italian Open tennis tournament in Rome, with a straight-set win over Donna Vekić of Croatia.

The Polish world No. 1 defeated the 21st-ranked Croatian player 6-3, 6-4 in the fourth round on Tuesday.

The Polish tennis star will now face Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan for a place in the last four of the clay-court tournament in the Italian capital.

Świątek won last year's Italian Open. She also triumphed in Rome in 2021.

The 2023 Italian Open runs until Sunday.
