The 25-man squad for the two games, announced by coach Fernando Santos last month, includes Barcelona star striker Robert Lewandowski and other regulars such as Napoli midfielder Piotr Zieliński and Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny.

Lewandowski reported for Poland duty after leading Barca to their first Spanish premier league title in four years, news outlets reported.

The Polish goal machine also won the traditional Pichichi top scorer award, after netting 23 times during the 2022/2023 campaign.

Ahead of the first training session scheduled for Monday afternoon, Lewandowski met reporters in Warsaw to discuss Poland’s upcoming encounters with Germany and Moldova, the state news agency PAP reported.

Poland’s Lewandowski eyes three points in Moldova

On June 20, Poland will play Moldova away as they bid to qualify for the 2024 European Championships.

Santos’ team are expected to win, but in March the unfancied Moldova held the Czech Republic to a goalless draw in Chișinău, the PAP news agency reported.

At Monday’s news conference, Lewandowski said: “From my experience, these away games [against unfancied opposition] depend mainly on our own performance. If we let our opponents feel confident, we’ll struggle. In these games it is all about our own performance, not about the opposition.”

The Poland captain added: “We are preparing for a tough game, but hopefully we’ll play well enough to get the three points.”

Before taking on Moldova next Tuesday, Poland play a friendly game against Germany at the National Stadium in Warsaw on Friday.

Lewandowski said it would be “an emotional match” for him, having played in the German Bundesliga for many goal-filled seasons, representing Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

The Polish team, led by Lewandowski, on March 24 opened its Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a 1-3 defeat against the Czech Republic. The Poles beat Albania 2-0 at home in their second Euro 2024 qualifier on March 27.

After two rounds of fixtures, Poland are second in their qualifying Group E, which also includes the Faroe Islands.

The Euro 2024 tournament will be held from June 14 to July 14, 2024 in 10 cities in Germany, with the final played at Berlin's Olympiastadion.

Poland are ranked 23rd worldwide by football's governing body FIFA, while Germany are No. 14 in the FIFA table. Moldova are ranked 171st.
