Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz reaches last 16 of Halle Open

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has moved into the last 16 of the Halle Open grass-court tennis tournament in Germany, with a win over American Christopher Eubanks.

The sixth-seeded Pole, who is defending his title in Halle, saw off the 27-year-old American 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the first round on Tuesday.

The Polish world No. 17 will now face Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands for a place in the quarterfinals.

Hurkacz last year beat Russia's Daniil Medvedev 6-1 6-4 in the final of the 2022 Halle Open to win his first title on grass.

In February 2023, the Pole won his sixth singles title by beating home favourite Benjamin Bonzi in the final of the Marseille Open indoor hard-court tournament in France.
