Meanwhile, Max Kroonen of the Netherlands came in runner-up, and Poland's Michał Pomorski finished in third.

The second-fastest Pole, Paweł Szóstka, placed sixth overall.

More than 160 cyclists from 28 teams based in various countries took part in the five-stage 730-kilometre-long race, which concluded in the southeast of Poland on Saturday.

The annual race, which is also known as the Course de Solidarność et des Champions Olympique, started on June 28 in the central city of Łódź.

Estonia's Kiskonen won the first leg of the race, which was 83 km long and ended in the central town of Skierniewice.

Further stages took riders through a number of other small towns and mid-sized cities in central and southeastern Poland.

These included Zgierz, Kutno, Koluszki and Sieradz.

Poland's Marceli Bogusławski won the last 175.2 km stage, which started in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski and finished in Stalowa Wola in the southeast of the country on Saturday.

Poland will later this month be hosting its largest cycling race, the Tour de Pologne, due to take place from July 29 to August 4.
