The Polish star on Friday beat the 30th seed Petra Martic from Croatia in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, to reach the Round of 16 at the All England Club, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The 1st seed Świątek will now face Belinda Bencic, the 14th seed from Switzerland, on Sunday, for her first-ever spot in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, according to news outlets.
Earlier on Friday, Bencic won her third round match 6-3, 6-1 against Poland’s 23rd seed Magda Linette, the PAP news agency reported.
Meanwhile, Poland’s 17th seed Hubert Hurkacz advanced to the fourth round of the men’s tournament with a straight-sets 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-4 victory over Lorenzo Musetti, the 14th seed from Italy, according to news outlets.
Hurkacz could now face 2nd seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the Round of 16, public broadcaster Polish Radio reported.
Świątek on Monday started her 66th week at the top of the WTA world rankings, with a 924-point lead over second-placed Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
At the end of last month, the Polish star withdrew from the Bad Homburg Open tournament in Germany due to illness.
Earlier in June, Świątek won the French Open for the third time after defeating Karolína Muchová of the Czech Republic in the final to claim her 14th career singles title.
The 22-year-old, coached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, in April last year took over as the new number one in women's tennis, becoming the first Pole to top the world rankings.
