Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz through to 2nd round in Cincinnati

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has made it through to the second round of the Western & Southern Open tennis tournament in the US city of Cincinnati.

The 26-year-old, ranked world No. 20 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), edged out Australia's Thanasi Kokkinakis 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 in the first round of the men’s singles on Tuesday.

The Pole will next face Croatia's Borna Ćorić for a place in the quarterfinals at the hard-court tournament in Cincinnati.

The Western & Southern Open tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio, also known as the Cincinnati Open or Cincinnati Masters, is for many top tennis players the final warm-up before the US Open Grand Slam event, which begins on August 28.
