Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz through to last eight in Cincinnati

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has reached the quarterfinals of the Western & Southern Open tennis tournament in the US city of Cincinnati.

The 26-year-old, who is ranked world No. 20 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), defeated Greece's fourth-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4 in the third round of the men’s singles on Thursday.

The Polish player will next face Australia's Alexei Popyrin for a place in the semifinals at the hard-court tournament in Cincinnati.

The Western & Southern Open tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio, also known as the Cincinnati Open or Cincinnati Masters, is for many top tennis players the final warm-up before the US Open Grand Slam event, which begins on August 28.
