The 26-year-old Pole on Friday saw off the 58th-ranked Australian 6-1, 7-6 in the quarterfinals of the men's singles at the hard-court tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Hurkacz, who is ranked world No. 20 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), will next face the winner of a match between Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and Australia's Max Purcell.
The Pole is playing for his seventh career singles title in the midwestern United States.
Meanwhile, Poland's Iga Świątek has moved into the last four of the women's singles at the Western & Southern Open, with a 7-6, 6-1 victory on Friday against reigning Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová of the Czech Republic.
The Polish world No. 1 will take on either America's seventh seed Coco Gauff or Italy's Jasmine Paolini for a place in the championship match on Saturday.
The Western & Southern Open tournament in Cincinnati, also known as the Cincinnati Open or Cincinnati Masters, is for many top tennis players the final warm-up before the US Open Grand Slam event, which begins on August 28.
