Hurkacz, who is ranked world No. 17 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), beat American Sebastian Korda 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals of the men's singles on Saturday to secure a place in the championship match.
The 26-year-old Pole is playing for his seventh career singles title in Shanghai, while also seeking to book a spot in the season-ending ATP Finals next month.
Hurkacz in August 2019 won his first ATP singles career title in the Winston-Salem tournament in the US state of North Carolina.
In January 2021, he claimed his second singles trophy at the Delray Beach Open in the United States, and followed up with victories at the Miami Open in April 2021, the Moselle Open indoor hard-court tournament in the French city of Metz in September 2021, and the Halle Open grass-court event in Germany in June last year.
In February 2023, Hurkacz won his sixth ATP singles title by beating home favourite Benjamin Bonzi in the final of the Marseille Open tennis tournament in France.
