Poland's Hubert Hurkacz was unsuccessful in the men's singles final, although he put up a truly heroic fight. Seeded fourth, he reached the final but lost after tie-breaks 6:7 (3-7) and 6:7 (5-7) to the tournament's sixth seed - Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassim. The match lasted nearly two hours - and Hurkacz visibly struggled with a leg injury throughout it.

For Hurkacz, it was the third final of the season, but the first one he lost - as he had previously won tournaments in Marseille and Shanghai. The Wroclaw native is still in the running for a ticket to the ATP Finals though, in which top 8 players of 2023 will compete mid-November in Turin. After the event in Basel, Hurkacz fell one place, to the 10th position in the ranking - but the fight for the finals continues, and everything is still possible.

Meanwhile, Poland's Jan Zieliński and Monaco's Hugo Nys reached the doubles final - but ended up losing 7:6 (10-8), 6:7 (3-7), 1:10 against Mexico's Santiago Gonzalez and the French Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
