The epic encounter, lasting just shy of four hours, saw Medvedev prevail in a closely contested five-set match.

The battle between Hurkacz and Medvedev was a display of high-level tennis, with the scoreline reading 6:7 (4-7), 6:2, 3:6, 7:5, 4:6 in favor of the Russian player. This match marks the best performance to date for the 26-year-old Hurkacz in the Australian Open, elevating him to a career-high eighth place in the world rankings.

Hurkacz, the ninth seed at the tournament, showed remarkable resilience throughout the match. Despite his defeat, he reinforced his status as a formidable player on the Grand Slam stage. His most notable achievement in major tournaments remains his 2021 Wimbledon semifinal appearance.

Daniil Medvedev, just a year older than Hurkacz, has now balanced their head-to-head record at 3-3 with this victory. The Russian player's triumph books him a spot in his eighth Grand Slam semifinal. Medvedev, a seasoned player in major tournaments, has reached the final twice in Melbourne (2021-22) and clinched his sole Grand Slam title at the 2021 US Open in New York.
