Saturday's match was the third encounter between Hurkacz and Monfils, ranked No. 54, resulting in the Pole's second defeat.

In January, Hurkacz climbed one spot to achieve a career-high world ranking of No. 8 in the ATP rankings for tennis players.

Following the defeat, Hubert Hurkacz is slated to descend from 8th to 9th place in the upcoming rankings.

Meanwhile, Poland’s world No. 1 Iga Świątek moved into the third round of the Indian Wells tournament with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Danielle Collins of the United States on Friday.

The BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament in Indian Wells, California, is scheduled to continue until March 17.
