Tennis: Poland’s Świątek storms into French Open semifinals

Poland's Iga Świątek has stormed into the semifinals of the women's singles at the French Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in Paris, with a straight-set win over Markéta Vondroušová of the Czech Republic.

The Polish world No. 1, who is the defending champion in Paris, ousted the fifth-seeded Czech 6-0, 6-2 in their quarterfinal match in the French capital on Tuesday.

Świątek, who celebrated her 23rd birthday last week, will next face Coco Gauff of the United States for a place in the championship match.

Świątek triumphed at Roland Garros last year and in 2022 and 2020.

The 2024 French Open runs until Sunday.
