Head coach Nina Patalon said her side still has "a lot of work" to do to compete effectively at the top level.

Sweden dominated Tuesday's clash in every aspect—controlling possession, completing more passes, and registering more shots on goal—earning a fully deserved victory, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

"Sometimes there are moments where you could do better, but it just doesn’t happen. That’s football,” Patalon told reporters after the game.

"I wouldn’t be too harsh on the team, but clearly, we still have a lot of work ahead. When you play the best, every pass and every shot counts," she said.

Poland, making its debut at the European championships, also lost its opening match 2-0 to Germany and now sits bottom of Group C with no points or goals scored from two games.

“We’ve gained a lot of experience in these two matches,” Patalon said. “None of our opponents took their foot off the gas. They capitalized on every weak moment we had.”

Poland entered the tournament as the lowest-ranked team in Group C, in 27th place worldwide, according to football governing body FIFA.

“I remain calm,” Patalon said. “The hard work we’ve put in gives us a chance, but it doesn’t guarantee success. We’ve raised our level in many areas, but clearly, we must keep improving. We’re not intimidated, but we need discipline, humility and persistence to keep growing.”

Patalon took over as head coach in 2021.

Poland will conclude its group-stage campaign on Saturday against Denmark.

Both teams have already been eliminated from quarterfinal contention after suffering two defeats each.
