Tennis: Poland’s Fręch through to Guadalajara Open quarterfinals

Poland’s Magdalena Fręch has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Guadalajara Open tennis tournament in Mexico, where she is the defending champion.

The 27-year-old Pole, who is ranked world No. 30 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), defeated Italian qualifier Lucrezia Stefanini 6-0, 7-6 in the round of 16.

The fourth-seeded Polish player, who had a bye in the first round, will now face Nikola Bartunkova of the Czech Republic for a place in the last four at the hard-court tournament in Guadalajarapublic broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Fręch won last year's Guadalajara Open to claim her first career singles title. She defeated Australian qualifier Olivia Gadecki 7-6, 6-4 in the championship match.

The 2025 Guadalajara Open event runs until Sunday.
