Another Polish female fighter, Aneta Rygielska (60 kg), is still in contention and set to compete for gold later on Sunday.

Kaczmarska’s golden moment

For the 27-year-old Kaczmarska, this marks a breakthrough. Previously unable to make a mark at the World Championships, she came into Liverpool as one of Poland’s most promising medal hopes.

In the final bout on Saturday night, she faced India’s Nupur Sheoran, who held a height advantage.

From the opening bell, Kaczmarska pressed forward, changing angles, unleashing a strong straight left that repeatedly found its mark. The later rounds were more contested. Fatigue showed in both corners, but just before the final bell, Kaczmarska landed another crisp left that helped secure a narrow 3–2 split decision.

Her gold makes her only the third Pole ever to win a World Championship in boxing, joining Henryk Średnicki (51 kg, Belgrade 1978) and Karolina Michalczuk (54 kg, Ningbo 2008).

Szeremeta’s silver streak

Julia Szeremeta, who won Olympic silver in 2024, entered the 57 kg final earlier on Saturday night as top seed, carrying high expectations back home.

In her final bout against India’s Jaismine Lamboria, she couldn’t secure enough dominance and lost the top spot by a 1-4 decision.

Though she fell short of gold, Szeremeta leaves with a silver that adds to her growing reputation on the world stage.

Looking ahead, Aneta Rygielska will represent Poland in the 60 kg final later on Sunday, aiming to add another medal to the country’s haul.

The Liverpool championships are the first under the banner of the newly formed governing body, World Boxing, and for the first time ever include men’s and women’s events together.

Poland sent a 19-member team to the event.
