World number two Iga Świątek battled past Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova 1-6 7-6(3) 7-5 in the Seoul final on Sunday to capture her third title of the season and the 25th of her career.

The 24-year-old Pole, playing the South Korean event for the first time, became only the second player from her country to lift the trophy after Agnieszka Radwańska in 2013.

The match lasted two hours and 46 minutes.

Świąek’s victory brought her USD 164,000 in prize money and 500 ranking points, consolidating her second place in the WTA standings.

She now trails top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka by 2,792 points.

With two WTA 1000 events in Beijing and Wuhan ahead, Świątek will have a chance to close the gap further, as she did not compete there last year.

Sabalenka, who won Wuhan in 2023 and eached the Beijing quarter-finals, has already withdrawn from the Chinese capital with injury.
