The Polish Olympic Committee and Ministry of Sport have unveiled generous incentive schemes, with individual gold medallists set to receive PLN 500,000 (EUR 118,600) in cash, plus an additional PLN 250,000 (EUR 59,300) in cryptocurrency tokens – a first for Olympic bonuses.
Winners will also receive a two-bedroom flat, a Toyota Corolla, and various other prizes including holiday vouchers and jewellery.
The government will add a further PLN 520,000 (EUR 123,000) through its own reward programme, though most of this will be paid in monthly instalments over two years.
In total, gold medallists will receive PLN 1.02 million (approx. EUR 241,500) in cash plus PLN 250,000 (EUR 59,300) in tokens.
The second- and third-place finishers will receive scaled-down versions of the package, while those placing fourth to eighth will also be rewarded.
Silver medallists will receive PLN 400,000 (EUR 95,000) in cash and PLN 200,000 (EUR 47,500) in tokens, while bronze winners get PLN 300,000 (EUR 71,000) and 150,000 (EUR 36,000) in tokens respectively.
Team event winners receive PLN 250,000 (EUR 59,300) in cash and the same in tokens, plus one-bedroom flats, with these prizes awarded per person rather than split between teammates.
The Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics run until February 22, with the opening ceremony set for Friday evening.
