Sellier fell together with a rival and was struck in the face by the other skater’s blade. She was carried off the ice on a stretcher and taken to hospital, where examinations and a CT scan revealed a minor fracture of the cheekbone. Doctors performed a procedure to clean and suture the wound.

i know that one day i’ll look at this picture and remember that i’m stronger than i ever believed.
thank you for all your words of support, just wanted to let you know that i’m doing quite okay,” Sellier wrote online, posting a picture from her hospital bed showing the uninjured side of her face.

Team press attache Katarzyna Kochaniak-Roman said the athlete was feeling well and would remain in hospital for further diagnostics until Monday, when a decision will be made on the next steps.

Poland’s Olympic mission chief Konrad Niedźwiedzki said the wound had been cleaned and stitched during surgery and indicated that a break from competition was likely, describing the incident as serious in appearance, but adding that Sellier had been very brave throughout.
