The biopic, titled Adam, will tell the story of Małysz’s rise to fame before he became a household name in Poland.

The role of the young athlete from the southern town of Wisła will be played by Bartłomiej Deklewa.

The film is scheduled to premiere in cinemas next year.

Małysz, one of Poland’s most successful athletes, became a national hero in the early 2000s after winning major international competitions, including the Four Hills Tournament, a series of ski-jumping events held annually in Germany and Austria.

The filmmakers say the story focuses on the early stages of his career, when he faced pressure, doubt and responsibility, both on the ski-jumping hill and in his private life.

“Ski jumping is more than what you see in television broadcasts. It is pressure, challenges, moments of loneliness, and moments when everything depends on a single decision. This film touches on that invisible side. It is my story,” Małysz said in a statement, adding that he feels the script presents his experience honestly.

Director Tomek Matuszczak described the project as a story about growing up and about “a real person who can lose his way, but keeps moving forward.”

Matuszczak said he wants the film to reflect everyday life in Poland in the late 1990s.

Deklewa, 25, is a graduate of the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Kraków, southern Poland. He is known for roles in the television series Absolutni debiutanci and the films Światłoczuła and Nie ma duchów w mieszkaniu na Dobrej.

He was nominated this year for the Zbigniew Cybulski Award, which honors the most talented young Polish actors.

Maja Szopa will play Izabela Małysz, the athlete’s wife.

Paweł Koślik will portray Apoloniusz Tajner, a key figure in Polish ski jumping and Małysz’s former coach.

Tomasz Kot will appear as Edi Federer, a well-known figure in the ski-jumping world.

The cast also includes Ireneusz Czop, Andrzej Kłak, Piotr Głowacki and Dorota Pomykała.

Filming will take three months, with locations including Warsaw, the German ski resort of Oberstdorf, Szczyrk in southern Poland, and Wisła, Małysz’s hometown.

Maciej Rzączyński, head of East Studio, said the production faces major logistical challenges. The team is recreating winter conditions of the late 1990s and staging ski-jumping scenes to show the sport from a more emotional and intimate perspective than typical media coverage.

Małysz, 48, is a former ski jumper who retired from the sport in 2011 as a multiple world champion and Olympic medalist, one of his country’s most decorated.

He has four Olympic medals, three silver and one bronze, to his name, and four world championship titles. He also won the ski-jumping World Cup four times.
