Tennis: Poland’s Świątek moves into 2nd round of French Open

Poland's Iga Świątek moved into the second round of the French Open Grand Slam tennis tournament, with a straight-sets win over Australian Emerson Jones in Paris on Monday.

The Polish world No. 3, who is a four-time French Open champion, ousted Jones 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the women’s singles.

Świątek, who triumphed at Roland Garros in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024, will next face the Czech Republic's Sára Bejlek as she bids for her seventh Grand Slam title and her fifth in Paris.

Three other Polish players, Magda Linette, Magdalena Fręch and Maja Chwalińska. have also advanced to the second round of the women's singles competition in the French capital.
