Lewandowski joined Chicago Fire on June 29 after four seasons with FC Barcelona. Earlier in his career he played for Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Lech Poznań, among others.
He made his debut for the American club on Wednesday, playing 63 minutes in a 3–2 away defeat to Inter Miami. On Saturday, he appeared from the start of the second half, with the match already largely decided.
Chicago Fire sits fourth in the Eastern Conference with 26 points from 16 matches. New York City, Saturday’s opponent, has one point fewer after 17 games. Nashville SC leads the conference with 39 points from 16 matches and can extend its tally later on Saturday local time.
