Among the top Polish players competing in the main draw are Katarzyna Kawa (World No. 131), Martyna Kubka (World No. 187), and Linda Klimovicova (World No. 206), all of whom secured direct entry thanks to their WTA rankings. Meanwhile, Gina Feistel, Weronika Falkowska, Weronika Ewald, and Zuzanna Pawlikowska have been awarded wild cards to compete in the tournament.
The President of the Polish Tennis Association (PZT), Dariusz Łukaszewski, described the event as the highlight of the domestic tennis calendar.
"The biggest event of the year in Polish tennis is ahead of us. Interest has been tremendous, and we have already sold more tickets than we did for last year's tournament," he said in a press release.
One of the most emotional moments of the tournament will be the official farewell of Polish doubles specialist Alicja Rosolska. The Warsaw native, who reached the Wimbledon women's doubles semifinals in 2018, has announced that this event will mark the end of her professional playing career.
"I've spent many years travelling the world and competing. Now it's time for a new chapter in my life. However, I'm not saying goodbye to tennis completely. I'll continue coming to the courts, hoping to watch the next generation of Polish stars," Rosolska said.
The competition runs from Sunday through August 8.
