Tennis: Poland’s Świątek, Chwalińska reach Wuhan semifinals, set up all-Polish clash

Poland's Iga Świątek and Maja Chwalińska both reached the semifinals of the Wuhan Open hard-court tournament in China on Friday, setting up an all-Polish clash for a place in the championship match.

Świątek beat American Ann Li 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, while Chwalińska defeated Greece's Maria Sakkari 6-0, 3-6, 7-5.

Świątek and Chwalińska will face off on Saturday for a place in the final.

Świątek's victory over Li kept alive her hopes of qualifying for the season-ending eight-player WTA Finals, which will be held from November 8 to 15 in Indian Wells, California.

Chwalińska's win over Sakkari moved her to a career-high No. 16 in the live rankings, Poland's PAP news agency reported.
