The work, entitled Caminando, was sold at the Desa Unicum auction house in the Polish capital on Tuesday, the onet.pl news website has reported.

The installation dates back to 1999 and consists of a set of 20 sculptures. It was once owned by American actor Robin Williams.

Abakanowicz was famous worldwide for her works including spatial compositions called “abakans.” She died in 2017 at the age of 86.

In a previous record sale on the Polish art market, a set of five paintings by artist Wojciech Fangor was auctioned off for PLN 7.1 million in December last year.

Two weeks earlier, a Fangor painting entitled M 39 was sold for a hefty PLN 4.7 million.
