It coincided with the launch of his latest book of memoirs, covering the 2018-2019 period.

The gala was attended by a number of leading Polish actors and former president Bronisław Komorowski.

A letter of good wishes was sent to Witold Sadowy by President Andrzej Duda.

Evidently moved but in a very good form, Sadowy said jokingly: “My wish is to feel less pain – the day I feel no pain is the day I pass away.”

Sadowy made his theatrical debut in May 1945. During a career lasting until 1989, he was a member of several Warsaw drama companies. He also acted in several films.

After retiring from the stage, he took to writing memoirs and reminiscences about Polish actors with whom he had the chance to work.

He has been contributing obituaries of Polish actors to various Polish dailies for over three decades. He has published five books.

In 2012, Sadowy received the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Reborn Poland.
