Polish musicians nominated for International Classical Music Awards

Several Polish musicians and ensembles have been nominated for the 2021 International Classical Music Awards.

In the Vocal Music category, tenor Piotr Beczała has two shots at the accolade: for the CD Vincerò! recorded for Pentatone with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana conducted by Marco Boemi, with a selection of arias by Puccini, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, Giordano and Cilea; and for songs by Polish composers Stanisław Moniuszko and Mieczysław Karłowicz, recorded with pianist Helmut Deutsch for the National Chopin Institute in Warsaw.

Soprano Aleksandra Kurzak is nominated in the same category for the CD Desire, featuring arias by Bizet, Dvorak, Moniuszko, Puccini and Verdi, released by Sony Classical.

In the Choral Music category, Moniuszko’s cantatas Milda and Nijola, recorded for the Polish label DUX by Polish soloists, the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra and the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Choir conducted by Łukasz Borowicz, are among the nominees

A CD featuring Offertoria et Communiones by Polish composer Mikołaj Zieleński (1560-1620) recorded by the Wrocław Baroque Ensemble under Andrzej Kosendiak has been nominated in the Baroque Vocal category.

The finalists will be announced by December 15, and the winners of the International Classical Music Awards will be published on January 20. An awards ceremony will take place in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, on April 18.
