21.02.2021 12:00
Location shooting is underway in a sanatorium in Szczawno-Zdrój, a spa in south-western Poland, for a Polish-British film entitled The Silent Twins. Its story is based on the lives of June and Jennifer Gibbons, identical twins from the West Indies who grew up in Wales. They became known as "the silent twins" because of their refusal to communicate with anyone other than each other.

The film traces their tragic history, leading to their incarceration in the U.K.'s high-security mental health hospital Broadmoor, against the protests of their family.

Before Szczawno-Zdrój, the production team worked on location in the city of Wrocław.

British actresses Letitia Wright (Black Panther, Black Mirror,  Death on the Nile, Hold Back the Stars) and Tamara Lawrence (On Chesil Beach, The Long Song) take the leading roles.

The Silent Twins is directed by Poland’s Agnieszka Smoczyńska. Her credits include two feature films Fugue and The Lure. The latter has received numerous awards at festivals in Poland and abroad, including a special award at the Sundance Festival in the United States and the Grand Jury Prize at the Chicago International Movies and Music Festival.  (mk)
