Highlights include Beethoven’s Fidelio and Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov. Both are co-productions, the former with the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen and the latter with New National Theatre in Tokyo.
The ballet Dracula, which is to close the season, is based on Bram Stoker’s novel of the same title. It was made into an Oscar-winning film by Francis Ford Coppola, with music by Polish composer Wojciech Kilar.
Kilar’s score is used in the ballet, which was first produced in 2018 in Perth by the West Australian Ballet, with highly-acclaimed choreography by Krzysztof Pastor. Pastor is the artistic director of Poland’s National Opera ballet company.
At the end of October, the National Opera in Warsaw will be the venue of a concert by the prize-winners of the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition.
Meanwhile, in June 2022, several events are planned to mark the 150th anniversary of the death of Stanisław Moniuszko, the father of Polish national opera.
They include the International Moniuszko Vocal Competition, which has been held at the National Opera in the Polish capital every three years since 1992.
