Cybulski died on January 8, 1967 at the age of 39 after accidentally slipping under a moving train at a station in Wrocław in the southwest of the country.
An open-air exhibition documenting Cybulski’s life and artistic career is on view in the Katowice Market Square until the end of the month.
Dubbed the “James Dean of Polish cinema,” Cybulski was a graduate of the State Drama School in Kraków.
He starred in 35 films, including Andrzej Wajda’s Ashes and Diamonds, a role that skyrocketed him to fame.
With his trademark dark glasses, leather jacket and rebellious spirit, he personified the dilemmas and longings of Poland’s postwar young generation.
