Polish Radio folk music festival kicks off

The annual New Tradition music festival held by public broadcaster Polish Radio kicks off on Friday to promote traditional and modern forms of folk music.

Twelve music acts will take part in this year's competition, selected from an initial pool of 70 entrants.

"The 12 finalists of this year’s edition demonstrate a great musical variety," says Piotr Kędziorek, the festival’s director. "Some of them understand folk as played very close to the roots, and some prefer experimental ventures into club or electronic music."
