Polish conductor wins praise in UK

Up-and-coming Polish conductor Agata Zając has won praise and the sought-after Mills Williams Junior Fellowship in Conducting award in Britain.

More than 120 budding conductors from across the world took part in auditions for what is one of the most prestigious grants for conductors at the start of their professional careers.

During the 12-month programmeZając will have the opportunity to work as assistant conductor with several British orchestras, including the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and Manchester Camerata.

Born in 1995, Zając started her musical education as a violinist and then began conducting studies at the Music Academy in Poznań, western Poland. She graduated with a master’s degree in 2020.

She has conducted many Polish and foreign orchestras, gaining experience in both symphonic music and opera.

She is currently conductor-in-residence of the Philharmonic Orchestra in Wałbrzych, southwestern Poland.
