An international jury praised the 9th album in the Musica Baltica series, recorded under the baton of the founder of the two groups, Andrzej Szadejko.
The album features Oratorio Secondo, an over two-hour piece by the 18th century Gdańsk composer Johann Daniel Pucklitz. Szadejko told public broadcaster Polish Radio that the artistic merit of the composition was comparable to that of the greatest oratorios of the time, such as Handel’s Messiah or Bach’s Passions.
In addition to the Opus Klassic Award, Musica Baltica 9 received nominations in three other categories.
The Goldberg Baroque Ensemble and the Goldberg Vocal Ensemble, founded by Andrzej Szadejko in 2008, specialise in performances of vocal-instrumental music from the old Gdańsk and the Pomerania region.
The two groups are made up of Polish and foreign musicians, graduates of renowned European centres for early music, including the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
