Polish jazz legend celebrates 75th birthday

Those in Warsaw Friday 23rd September can enjoy a free-of-charge jazz concert and jam session with many of Polish lazz's leading lights in the "Podziemie Kamedulskie" in Bielany, Warsaw - in honour of Tomasz Tłuczkiewicz, a key figure in Polish jazz who is celebrating his 75th birthday.

Tomasz Tuczkiewicz

One of the most important figures in Polish jazz, Tomasz Tłuczkiewicz was for many years the director of the internationally known Jazz Jamboree and Jazz on the Oder ("Jazz nad Odrą"). He was for many years active as a journalist specialising in jazz as well as working as a translator of English literature.

For the last 12 years he has been the chief organiser of the concert series "Jazz in the Camaldolese Underground" - a culture centre in the catholic retreat centre in Bielany Forest, Warsaw.

Concert

The program will include a concert of Polish jazz stars - including Artur Dutkiewicz, Jerzy Małek, Borys Janczarski, Michał Jaros, Patryk Dobosz - as well as a jam session and discussion with Tłuczkiewicz.

Entrance is free but number of places limited. Organised by the Bielany District, Warsaw City Council, PianoArt, the Podziemia Kamedulskie and the Bielany Public Library.
