A two-LP edition of the recording will follow on October 21.

The CD features Masques Op. 34, four of Szymanowski’s 20 Mazurkas Op. 50 (1926–31), four of his nine Preludes Op. 1, and Variations on a Polish Folk Theme Op. 10.

The Preludes, Mazurkas and Variations were recorded earlier this year at the Fukuyama concert hall, designed by world-renowned acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota, whereas Masques was recorded by Zimerman in 1994 and has remained unreleased until now.

The launch of the disc comes several days before the 140th anniversary of Szymanowski’s birth on October 3.

At 65, Poland's Zimerman is regarded as one of the greatest living pianists.

He rose to prominence after winning the 1975 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, at the age of 19, and has since enjoyed a spectacular career, performing with the world’s leading orchestras and giving a number of recitals in the most prestigious concert venues.

Earlier this month, Zimerman won the Praemium Imperiale Award from the Japan Art Association.
