The institute, which reopened on Monday, moved from Kyiv city center to the historic Podil district.

Polish President Andrzej Duda presented the institute with a Polish flag and sent a special message to mark the occasion:

“May the sight of this flag be a source of inspiration to you in your work of promoting and representing Poland and the Polish people in Kyiv, the capital of a free and independent Ukraine,” Duda wrote in the message.

“May it remind us of the friendship, unity and cooperation, and strengthen mutual understanding and respect between the two free and proud nations," the president added.

Institute director Robert Czyżewski said at the opening ceremony that Poland's presence and cultural activities in Ukraine remained strong despite the war.

“In a situation where the diplomatic missions of various countries that left Ukraine due to the war have not yet returned, the fact that Poland is not only present here, but is increasing the area of one of its facilities fourfold, sends a very clear signal,” Czyżewski added.

The Polish Cultural Institute in Kyiv, which has been operating since 1998, has become part of Ukraine's cultural life through events such as film festivals.

Every year it organizes Polish Cinema Days and awards the prestigious Joseph Conrad-Korzeniowski Literary Prize, the PAP news agency reported.
