Since its premiere in 2014, This War of Mine has garnered widespread acclaim both abroad as well as in the country, where it became the first videogame to be included in Polish school curricula.

With its poignant storyline and emotionally charged gameplay, This War of Mine transports players to a war-torn city, where they must navigate the harrowing challenges faced by civilians trying to survive in the midst of conflict.

Players are tasked with caring for the hungry, comforting the mentally distressed and tending to the gravely ill, all while facing complex decisions under constant threat to their lives.

This War of Mine is believed to help the players understand the severity of war atrocities and teach them about the horrors of armed conflicts.

The game’s storyline also explores ethical and psychological themes, including human dignity and people’s behaviour in life-threatening situation.

Created by Warsaw-based 11 Bit Studios, This War of Mine’s storyline draws inspitation from tens of real-life conflicts, such as the Warsaw Uprising (1944), the Siege of Sarajevo (1992-1996) or the Syrian Civil War (since 2011).

It is noted for its remarkable realism in depicting the bleak reality accompanying wars and its unyielding portrayal of the morally and physically exhausting struggle for survival.

The game has been selected to be part of the Museum of Modern Art’s “Never Alone. Video Games and Other Interactive Design” exhibition, showcasing boundary-pushing designs that are transforming the world of interactive entertainment.

New York’s Museum of Modern Art is widely regarded as one of the most iconic institutions devoted to modern art.
