The accolade is for a set of chamber works by Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki, released on the 90th anniversary of his birth by the Austrian label Capriccio.
The award-winning CD features all of Penderecki’s four quartets, the string trio, The Interrupted Thought, and the clarinet quartet, in which the Meccore members Wojciech Koprowski, Aleksandra Bryła, Michał Bryła and Marcin Mączyński were joined by clarinetist Jan Jakub Bokun.
In its review of the CD, Pizzicato magazine wrote: “The Meccore String Quartet delivers wonderful interpretations. Technically they master all finesses, which is also to be expected in stupendous intonation. And their interpretations unfold before our ears with natural matter-of-factness, so that one cannot imagine any other interpretation of the works."
Penderecki died in 2020 at the age of 86.
