The show features more than 50 sculptures, including large-format works executed in bronze, glass, stone and wood, in addition to over 120 drawings, watercolours and prints.

The event, which runs until September 10, is accompanied by a wide-ranging educational programme of workshops and films about Cragg’s artistic career.

The exhibition, co-financed by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, is being held under the auspices of the British Council and the British embassy in Warsaw.

Born in 1949 in Liverpool and based in Wuppertal, Germany, Cragg is one of the world’s most acclaimed contemporary sculptors, a worthy successor of Henry Moore and the New British Sculpture of the 1980s, according to art critics.

He works in stone, clay, bronze, metal, glass and synthetic materials, such as polystyrene, carbon fibre and glass fibre, which he subjects to various transformations. He draws inspiration from the surrounding nature and areas such as biology, physics and chemistry.

Cragg’s previous one-man shows in Poland were held in 1978 in Warsaw, in 2016 at the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko, south of the Polish capital, and in 2017 in the southwestern city of Wrocław.
