24.11.2023 20:00
Warsaw's "Jazz In Film.pl" is the only festival in Poland presenting often-forgotten works of Polish cinematography that use musical illustrations created by top Polish jazz musicians. The event will take place from November 29 till December 1 at FINA (National Film Archive's Audiovisual Institute) in Warsaw.

The hero of this year's edition will be the late Zbigniew Namysłowski - an outstanding Polish jazz saxophonist, composer, arranger and bandleader, who died in 2022. The festival will feature a number of films including scores created by this artist, including a number of pictures that are rarely screened and hard to get a hold of.

On the second day of the festival, an extensive block of animated films is planned. The organisers will recall the most important Polish jazz-illustrated works of this kind, with scores by a host of Polish legendary jazzmen - like Adam Makowicz, Andrzej Przybielski, Tomasz Stańko, Krzysztof Komeda and Jerzy Matuszkiewicz.

The festival's only premiere will be this year's film by Agnieszka Iwańska, portraying a world-known Polish jazz singer Urszula Dudziak. Both the director and the heroine of the movie will be the special guests of the festival. Another special guest will be Michał Wilczyński, who is the founder of GAD Records - a record label that specialises in "unearthing" and re-releasing various forgotten gems of Polish music.

Admission to the festival is free, but as places are limited - an online registration is required.
