Located in a small town of Błonie, 30 km from the centre of the Polish capital, it was designed by the Warsaw-based Aleksandra Wasilkowska Architectural Studio.

The Błonie Market is a hybrid public space which combines two social functions – a park and a bazaar. White roofs reflect the sun rays and provide shelter from the rain. The merchant displays can be used as seats and a space for spontaneous meetings. There are also various street furniture fixtures, such as bicycle racks, boulders, a community table, and a children’s playground, as well as trees and shrubs that provide food and shelter to birds and insects.

Wasilkowska graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Warsaw University of Technology in 2003, and two years later earned a diploma with distinction from École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Bretagne. Since 2007 she has run her own architectural studio in Warsaw.

Five finalists in the race for the Mies van der Rohe 2024 EU Prize are to be announced in early February, while the winner will be announced in mid-May in Barcelona.
