Delfina Ambroziak died this January at the age of 85. She sang an immense repertoire of soprano parts, coloratura as well as lirico spinto, to include Violetta in Verdi’s "La Traviata", Gilda in Rigoletto; Mimi in Puccini’s "La Boheme", Marguerite in Gounod’s "Faust" and Boito’s "Mefistofele", Donna Elvira in Mozart’s "Don Giovanni", Hanna in Moniuszko’s „Haunted Manor”, Yaroslavna in Borodin’s "Prince Igor”, Micaela in Bizet’s „Carmen” or the Marschallin in Strauss’s „Rosenkavalier”. She sang oratorio music and lieder, and gave her voice to many premiere performances and recordings of new compositions: among others in 1984 she sang the world premiere of Wojciech Kilar’s „Angelus”. She was known for her interest in modern music - singing for instance in the opera „Lord Jim” by Romuald Twardowski and Martinu’s "Julietta". Her voice features on many recordings of the music of Krzysztof Penderecki - including his „Utrenya” on the album done for the Philips label.
