Produced by Erato and distributed by Warner Music Poland, the disc features Leoš Janáček’s On an Overgrown Path, Book II, Béla Bartók’s Fourteen Bagatelles Op. 6, and six of the Twenty Mazurkas Op. 50 by Polish composer Karol Szymanowski.

In its review of the recording, Gramophone writes: “As always, Anderszewski’s focus is astonishing. Whether it be the stinging rhythms of Bartók’s second Bagatelle or the exquisitely graded dynamics of his secretive account of Janáček’s Andante, whether it be the resilience of the quirky gestures in Janáček’s Allegro or the perfect balance of the superimposed voices that weave through the fourth of Szymanowski’s Mazurkas … the level of detail is apt to leave you speechless.”

It adds: “It’s hard to keep listeners engaged for an hour with a string of independent pieces lasting, on average, less than three minutes each. Anderszewski meets the rhetorical challenge, though, and keeps us not simply engaged but enthralled.”

Anderszewski, 54, is regarded as one of the world’s most outstanding pianists. His honours include the prestigious Gilmore Artist Award.

In the coming days, he is set to perform in Lisbon (February 17), Paris (February 26), and the Polish cities of Szczecin, Gdańsk and Warsaw (March 7, 8, 11).
