Before the 4-act version of the classic by Moniuszko became popular he had completed a 2-act one, then shelved and also nowadays not so often performed

This Halka has now been chosen for a new production by the Polish Royal Opera. In a new instrumentation by Michał Dobrzyński, the tragic (and once considered controversial) story of a village girl who falls in love with the squire is directed for the stage by Wojciech Adamczyk. 

Music director Dawid Runtz, and Natalia Rubiś and Justyna Khil who sing the title role speak to Elżbieta Krajewska.
